ok a price for 6" thick (4.2 cube) is £446
can i avoid material underneath at this thickness?

The old man and uncle laid the concrete round here straight on subsoil in the late sixties and it's just breaking up now where we turn machinery and drive regular round the cattle yards. Still straight where it doesn't get much use. Consider drainage/conduit/pipe before you lay especially rainwater from the new roof. Got any pictures how you intend to roof the area? I'm interested because we have two 20' between two 40' so have a similar area (won't get concreted though 'cos that's a bit flash!)

ok so for workshop/foot traffic should be ok? my mini-power hammer might not be the best idea though...

i've bought box profile sheets and timber for building trusses to put up a 12.5 degree pitched roof

What's mainly destroyed parts of the concrete is old field drains (clay pipe) left under the concrete which inevitably break up:facepalm: so make sure you don't have any under it. If you do then I would renew, but then you've got containers there so on second thought don't worry.

How are you going to get the rainwater away and stop wind from blowing damp in?

not sure about rainwater. it occurs to me i might make sure there's a slight slope on the new container when it's delivered tuesday, so water will tend to run off (not stellar performance compared to guttering and downpipes admittedly.
I can cover the gap between the container roof and the box profile sheet potentially.

Missed this one. I thought containers had a slight domed top so you'll need a fair lean on it to have much effect.

Sounds like you've got your hands full though after seeing the TDAW thread!

If it's a workshop floor 3-4" will be plenty unless your running steel track machines on it. A 180x70 shed at home was used as a grain store in the 80s, had artics reverse in and tip, has been used as a cattle shed for last 25 years has only 4" max of concrete. It stands our loadall scrubbing on it with big grabs of dung loading 15plus ton trailers. Its still good as new. It's all about what's under it and how long it gets to cure.

Kinda how it's gonna go, pallet walls over clad with 'something', some scrounged timber double glazed windows.

Thinking about a split personnel/vehicle door at the front with a removable centre post

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.
