While enjoying an easy Sunday morning reading the lable from ASDA onions I was surprised to see that they were from New Zealand.
For those that dont know, you would be doing well to get much further away from Britain.
A google search on transporting onions shows that they need transported at 0'c in a well ventilated environment. Fuel to transport it and fuel to cool it.
When we are under so much environmentally nonsensical guilt tripping (which is all our fault for farming) why is this allowed when they could be grown much closer to home? I thought the environment was 5 years off not recovering 10 years ago?
It raises a second question.
Why are supermarkets allowed to reject vegetables because they are not the correct size or a carrot with a bend in it?
I really like white cabbage, butter and pepper and you dont need much else on the plate. We got one from Morrisons yesterday that was closer to the size of a cricket ball rather than a small football that they used to be.
Whats going on, is there a risk of food shortage or are we being too picky?
