l G seeds bred Hobson and you show me data from one test taken in Jan 2011 by LG Seeds which showed all Rapes poor on Winter Hardness out of a score of 9
Cotswold Seeds have listed as reasonable for WH
No, they are ongoing trials year on year the trial results I posted are current.

Hobson scores 5 out of 9 for winter hardiness which is the highest on the list.

You must have posted the wrong list then

report back on how it goes, im not sure they will relish the phacelia /radish but will add cover all the way through i guess,
rye is a good call.
I quite like the idea of putting a mix on , I'm lucky as I have all sorts left of left overs I just mix it all in , like last year the rape did poor but the turnips were fantastic . It's better for the stock as well to have some veriaty , just don't put to much of one thing

I'm looking at the list you posted . It's getting tiresome now [emoji23]

read the small print
"Source: Limagrain UK trials 1998-2019, (c) = Control, * No data available. Winter hardiness scored Jan 2011 only. Not all varieties trialled every year, not all scores taken every year"

Could be that its similar to redstart, wont be as good as hungry gap etc depends on the winter of course and luck of the draw these days.

a 'funny' mix is trendy but tbh straight ryecorn is good late winter early spring forage just the seed is too dear these days.

No Rebound Hybrid Kale
Voltage is Straight 2 year Kale , very popular leafy and winter Hardy
Frisia is the best stubble turnip I've grown but the gestures will be along to prove me wrong [emoji1787]
Ballansa or Crimson or relatively cheap if you just stick a little bit in

Neither Balansa (esp Paradana, which I guess your guys still have in stock after trials a few years back?) nor Crimson are winter hardy, so no good for the OP’s ‘late grazing’ requirements.

I’ve heard that Frisia doesn’t hold it’s tops well into the winter, so not ideal for late grazing either perhaps? No doubt it’s OK for early grazing, or in your maritime climate though.

For winter, bit later use.
Not bought seed yet but...Redstart ?
Always get on well it .
could add a bit of Italian but might need to spray out potential wild oats if they come

If you ‘always get on well’ with Redstart, why change anything?

You might save a quid or two a kilo with some Johnny come lately variety, but is £3-4/ac either here or there against a variety that you know works for you?

Stick with your Redstart, and perhaps mix some stubble turnips in to add a bit of variety?

I grazed Frisia in March with plenty of tops and we exposed LFA here and not had anyone say that about it , I would only put a few grams of clover in so would cost very little , like I said take I punt with a mix, you could put all Kale in , it's turns dry you would end up with nothing

But if it's long keep he wants , he has discounted Roots Maincrop Turnips and Swedes , so he's only left with Kale and Rye that are proven in a Hard long Winter

It should be fine. I’m pig drilling some Massif turnips just now that was bought new this year, but is resealed 2018 seed according to the label.
