Seed is dearer than gold but you don't need much (90kh/ha), use a bit less N than wheat, but a bit more growth reg. T1 and T2 fungicicdes only. Its a good replacement for 2nd wheat or an early entry for OSR. Cant remember yield but it pays better than 2nd wheat.

Grown triticale for the last three years but hybrid rye before that.
140-170 kg N
2x fungicide + pgr

Rye stands better than triticale (it’s flat this year)

Had yields from 12-18 tonnes acre mainly around the 15 tonne mark

Harvesting costs killed the job for us with a 18 mile round trip to the AD plant. The triticale growing this year will be combined

18mile round trip to produce "sustainable" energy - the irony !!

energy in vs energy out would be interesting ? anyone have any numbers ?
Not to hand, but it better than you might imagine. A disastrous crop soon changes it though. All plants claiming FITs or RHI need to show their sustainability figures. A lot of work involved.

Iv just done my sums and spring barley at 2.5t/ac works out similar to 15t/ac of forage rye, except you have the spring barley straw to sell. How are people justifying growing it. Think most people are getting between £23 to £25 a ton for the rye.

AD around here are cutting right back on wanting rye. Which is a shame as I enjoyed growing it and it was harvested end June last year . They want more maize.
