But yes they will not be allowed to slaughter calves under 8 weeks old and ALL calves will have to be reared until that age.

I think they can sell them but have to ensure the buyer rears them untill they are 8 weeks old.

A dairy man was telling me that yesterday. I suspect there will be a lot more calves born dead.

Perhaps they should keep a breed of milking cow that produces a calf that is worth having/selling, that would be a way round it

Thats the answer. Most of my B&W steers grade an O+ at slaughter get a few R and a very few O-. Lim x are R and had the odd U. It amazes me that my B&W steers grade better than alot of suckler bred animals. Seen grade sheets of Angus cattle only getting O+
