Ford 5030 temperature switch

I'm trying to get hold of the correct temperature switch for my Ford 5030. This is the switch/ sender that is screwed onto the front of the block, by the thermostat. I believe that the correct collar colour is white. The old one (defective) is white. Only red or black seem to be available. Despite the nice pictures and impressive part numbers shown on the websites (and email conversations with the parts suppliers) of the usual suspects, I keep being sent (and sending back red- and black-collared senders. These have the wrong resistance value so the gauge does not zero when the ignition is turned on with a cold engine, and the gauge reads hot. The cooling system has had a complete overhaul, and we have checked all the relevant engine areas with a laser/infra red thermometer. I believe the correct resistance value is around 800 ohms. Red is around 550, and black is about 650 ohms. The thread looks like 3/4 BSP. The Ford part number is 83917490. I've not been to The Dealer because they want £70 for the kit. Yes, £70. Aftermarket is around a tenner, posted. Any thoughts, ideas or suggestions gratefully accepted. Thanks.

The part number is engraved on my heart. The issue is the collar colour so that the resistance range matches the gauge. Hence my sweating to try and find a sender with a white collar. Some guys in Poland show a white collar on their web page but I don't know enough Polish- or any, in fact - to ask them to check the colour and resistance of the part. Hey ho.

And the one above at Anglo-agriparts? It has a white collar...
Nope. I emailed them an asked them to check before sending. They confirmed white. It arrived red. They have now told me that they only have red. (They did not open the box, only looked at the part number on the box).

Are you up for a bodge? A resistor either in series or parallel to a wrong sensor could be tuned to be correct somewhere in the range (of your choosing) and indicative either side.

I think I'd still bite the bullet at your dealer, depends how you value your time.

And £70 is cheaper than a seized engine repair/replacement.
