Hi iv got a ford 7840sle and it's getting hot when working. It was fine couple of weeks ago only thing that happened was I had the fan belt go whilst I was mowing so I replaced it but know it's getting hot any ideas what could be wrong with it.

Ask @Bald Rick about pressure washers and cooling things!
Power washers ..... dangerous things when in the hands of the old boy.
Thought I would give the glycol snap chiller radiators a blast. Thought they were coming up lovely... all brassy and shiney.
Turns out I was folding all the fins flat.
In the words of Captain Bertolleri of 'Allo, 'Allo .."Wadda mistaka to maka"

Guess who's spending hours with a radiator comb?

Still, getting there

The radiator blocked from chaff from mowing is still the most likely issue. Put a light on one side and look through the other side to see if the fins are clean all the way through the radiator. Very easy for a radiator to look clean on the outside and be blocked solid inside. If it's bad, usually needs to come off or at least remove everything in the way and let it soak with some detergent to loosen then rinse, then repeat until clean.

Take a non contact thermometer and when it's as hot as you dare run it, jump off and take the temps of the thermostat outlet to the radiator, the inlet back from the radiator and the block and head temps. That will usually point out that the water going out is as hot as the head, and the water coming back is only 5 degrees cooler because the radiator isn't getting enough air flow through it. If you have 10 degrees C cooler water coming back, then it might not be the radiator, unless it's blocked inside just as much as outside.

The self tensioning idler packed up on our 7740 a couple of years ago, looked and spun fine but was just a little tweaked over. Tractor started eating belts and heating up.
I'd say you belt snapping and suddenly running hot are part of the same problem, so check your water pump isn't goosed and none of the pulleys have a bearing away

To check if anything is goosed, before you put the new belt on, spin everything and look if it's spinning true or wobbling, and listen if anything has a rattle or grind in the bearing.
Iv took off the new belt and span everything around the only thing that's making a grinding sound is the tensioner. Iv signed a light the the radiator and I can see the light

The noisy tensioner won't make it overheat but needs replaced anyway. Take the bottom hose of the radiator and apply a high volume hose to the pressure cap filler fitting. Not the expansion tank. Water should come out the bottom as quick as it goes in the top. If it doesn't, the cores are blocked internally. Did you also slide out the oil cooler and aircon rad(if fitted) to make sure it's clean behind them?
Take out the thermostat and see if it opens in very hot, but not boiling water. If it doesn't, replace it.Don't just run without it. Needs to be there. If still no joy, the impeller has maybe came off the water pump. Pump required.
