Does anyone know if its possible to add a front tank to a combi drill and use it to fill into the back tank to gain extra capacity

Yes, many are like that, you need the round thing (not sure what its called) to slow the seed flow to drop into hopper.

Cyclone, look for a Lely or KRM front tank they are the most common feeder hoppers as you need a slide to control the flow ideally rather than a full on metering system ideally.

Used to do this with our lemken Combi.
Standard format was grain on back and fert on front with 4 pipes going to rear, but for seed only drilling used to shut two metering rolls and send two pipes up into rear seed tank. Never bothered with cyclone, just made sure I’d used half rear hopper before sending seed back and fitted a foam gasket inside lid to stop seed bouncing out..

problem with a spreader is it would upset the scales calibration. Would have to run in manual while transferring. Thought about trying to set something up years ago

I have the perfect thing your looking for in my yard if your interested. Its a KRM that feeds a back hopper.

I don't have scales calibration. But your correct it would confuse it.

That’s exactly what I use with my rear Fert spreader and all I do is turn off the weigher when transferring works a treat and transforms a 3.5t machine into a 5t machine still on the same 140hp tractor and the front hopper just replaces the necessary weights

What happens to all the air your blowing into the sealed rear tank though ?

You wouldn’t be able to do this into a pressurised rear hopper

The cyclone or venturi lets the seed drop out and the air go outside the hopper.
Think Dyson vac or air pre-filter top.

It won't be sealed.

You could still do seed transfer with pressurised (rather than sealed) rear hoppers, but it's not quite as simple as with non pressurised hoppers.

If you have a separate fan for the front hopper, use that to pressurise the rear hoppers and add a restricted vent to them so you still get the required air flow from front to back and maintain pressure inside the rear hoppers.
