Not had this happen before🤷‍♂️
my question is ...
will it come back or do I have to redrill?
Same here. Looks like it caught a dose of diquat. Leaves frosted back half way. Never seen it before. The year that keeps on giving.
Was giving mine some manganese. In fact that’s when I noticed it. Worst in hollows that gather the frost and on direct drilling with trash for some reason. Drilled onto ploughed land not really affected. Could just be field location though.

However do you lot cope with spring barley on that black/organic land? I hate putting barley on it with a passion. Bloody stuff falls over, won't cut gets full of weeds etc etc. To the OP I think that will perk up again. Definitely give it some Mn next week.

Very common here in Canada. You’ll be fine with that damage. Might even make it tiller more from being prunes a bit.
Your growing point will still be below ground so unless it’s frozen solid for more that three hours or so it will grow out of it. Have seen worse from heat Banding. It’s when the soil get so hot that it fries the plant that touches the surface leaving it look like the plants have been clipped off. I wouldn’t be stressed over that damage.

Frost is the reason I only drilled my block of moss (peat) land yesterday. Although I’ve had it do 3t drilled in May before now so I don’t worry about getting on it early. It’s just getting the N right to keep it stood up and the machines on top if it comes wet!

Did you redrill the barley. Seen that here many times and it’s comes thru most times. Growing point will still be low enough to survive. Tough to tell from just looking but if you peel the layers back on the plant you should be able to see if the growing point is done.
