Hi all, just a quick one, I have a international 475 and have a small leak on one injector pipe we're is screws into the fuel pump, I've pinched it up but still dripping when in use, was wondering am I ok to disconnect and put PTFE tape around the tread to see if that works or is there anything else on the market someone could recommend. Thanks

Difficult to tell how/where it's leaking from a post but I've had good experience using a 'liquid gasket' on these annoying leaks. This is one that has worked for me. Just need a thin smear on a joint, so it goes a long way. Follow the directions.

What we’d normally do is loosen the nut right off and slide it up the pipe away from the joint then wrap some thread off a hessian sack round the pipe at the neck of the flared end. Then slide the nut back to joint so the hessian goes up inside the nut then tighten it up. The hessian gives the nut extra purchase on the joint and helps seal it. Often these joints leak because the nut feels tight because its run out of thread, not because it’s actually compressing the joint. We use a special kind of hessian called “tow” which we’ve had in the drawer for about a century. It looks like a big heap of fine sisal and used to be used with paste for sealing threaded pipe joints - maybe still is. But any kind of fibrous thread will do. It’s more guts than ptfe tape.

If it’s leaking at the banjo bolt threaded in to the pump you need to get the correct washers as standard copper washers won’t hold

Thanks all for your help, going to tackle it this weekend, just a thought, if I do disconnect the pipe will I have to bleed the fuel line when I reconnect the pipe or will it just pull through when cranked over?

Not the same thing but same area, but I always had problems curing the leak around the glass bowl at the fuel filter until I discovered Blue liquid gasket. The correct quantity is a very thin smear so the surfaces are tacky. I don't know what others use but if it's clogging up the fuel system that might be a clue.;)

no wont need to bleed the system if just the injector pipe(s) have been undone, just leave it a bit loose at the injector end until its running roughly, diesal comes then quickly nip it up.

with injector pipes remmber to not over tighten or it will distort /mark the flared bit of the ipipe and then wont seal its not much to get a new injector pipe/ one made though

just 'nip' up the flare nut when fitting injector pipe , not too tight then start and run engine to warm let them expand , then see if theres a leak, if there is , tighten a bit more ever so slightly and maybe neede again until they stop with that potential leak.

and always keep spare copper washers in stock to replace the ones after undoing banjo bolts. because they will be softer and wont need to be again overtightened ...to try and 'force' a seal...
