Planning to buy a press for my plough, 4 furrow ed85 200 kv at 16", what width is best for my plough, is the press I need to be 64" exactly or how much overlap is right? What makes of press are good for less than £1000 on spring ploughing light/medium soil?

Lemken are good, not that expensive (they’ve been making them for years) so there’s a few around. They are also modular so you can extend them a ring at a time

You want 4 x 16' + 4 x 2' = 72' At that budget be careful of Lemken as to replace the Centre bearings which do wear would nearly take all the budget. You'll find Best value in either a FarmForce (yes I used to make them so biased), Flexicoil / NRH, Dowdeswell as they use std off the shelf Bearings which within reason is the only wearing item.

For a flexicoil one, are the coil type ones any good, or are rings better? have some stoney land but not much lumps to break.

Coils are very good on V light blow away sand or Peat, Anything with any more body a Ring press would be better in my view but a broad 45 Deg ring press not a sharp 30 Deg which would be better on heavier land

If of any interest, I have a 1.8m Flexicoil press for sale that we used with a es80 4 furrow Kverneland for sale. Not sure where your base?

The thing that puts people off is moving them field to field, round telegraph poles. What we did for people with front linkages was make a weight carrier with an integral implement mover so you could pickup move, carry and put down the furrow press without even having to get out the tractor seat

Slightly off topic, and apologies for bringing up an old thread. I just rescued a packomat from the scrapman and I'm asking does anyone here use one? It will take a wet week in the workshop to get it on the plough. Apart from the weight, what's it like to actually work with one? Our land is light, easy to till but lots of limestone.
