Ok so I’m looking at buying a grain drier, it’s gas and prob best value for me at the moment.
Question is what gas does it run off where do you get the gas and roughly how much would it use to drop 12 ton 4% moisture.
Thanks in advance.

Used to run two Opicos on gas. The suppliers are a bunch of robbers, if you accept a ‘free’ tank with a contract to supply they will have your trousers down on price. Got fed up with being ripped off and their delivery time got worse as well. We rang around a lot for quotes and ended up buying a secondhand tank through a local independent supplier, he was way cheaper than the big firms and we still have gas from him for the offices etc.

Google is your friend, don’t think just because you know Calor etc they are the best, they’re not.

I would agree buy your own tank and then you can shop around the big boys are a bunch of crooks.
Theres a firm up North that will install and service your tank from memory the tank was about two grand then annual service charge .

I rent mine from West Wales Gas, I think its only £35/year, they've just changed it for a new tank which was a bit of a shame as I've just gone back to a diesel dryer.

Personally I would not buy a gas dryer .reason for
We used to run one, Supplied with two tanks on a contract No problem on price or Supply of gas, Until it came a very wet year and Demand outstrips supply price rocketed three weeks to get the tanks filled up .So went out and bought a diesel one and never look back .and sold the gas one .And on the plus side the diesel one when out on hire .

sorry for sounding thick but it’s all new to me, the salesman asked the previous owner who said it is liquid draw off gas but I can’t find much on google like that.
As far as I understand the gas and the tank is the same but a household system uses the gas element of the product which would be propane so draws the gas from the top of the tank whereas the grain drier uses the liquid element of the product so has a pipe internally to the bottom of the tank so drawing the actual liquid out eg LPG. That’s the way I understand it.

I've had my tank off calor for years now how would they know if someone else put gas in it ? or is it a case that independent suppliers won't fill it ?

the diesel ones can be run on kero, cleaner burn and running costs used to be a bit lower but you likely know that. (y)

Edit just been to look at gauge and there’s a smart metre of sorts on it now so guessing they’ll know if someone else fills it . It must have been fitted when they serviced the tank in the winter
