Hi people, have been looking at a 1998 gem self propelled sprayer, 3000litre tank and has a Cummins engine, one of the last I think as has suspension and a stepped chassis! Are there a good machine or anything to look out for if purchasing? Thanks a mill.

Avison sprayers has a good knight/Househam super sprint in it’s a 1997 but spray pack says 1998 it was my sprayer for seven years and gave us very little trouble at all.

I had a very early one bought second hand at20years old and never touched electrics apart from sending dash away and getting it sorted which was a couple of hundred pounds

Thanks very much for the feedback lads I’m just a little concerned about all the electrics and gadgets on it as it’s over 20 years old and they haven’t being made for awhile now so parts may be hard to source. [emoji106]

It won't be one of the last Sapphires; they continued in the Case SP3000 guise until 2003 (with a couple of cab changes and tweeks on the way). If the machine you are looking at has the Cummins engine then it will be one of the first SPs after the Case take over (hence the Cummins engine, they used to have Deutz engines in Gem machines). Is the machine painted in Black and White? There were a few in these colours, prior to and after the take over.

The stepped chassis and suspension was the second major phase change of the design, the stepped chassis lowered the C of G significantly and suspension improved the ride over the Aeon rubber buffers.

Brand new parts are readily available for these machines still to this day.

Have a good look underneath and around the droplegs, sliding axles, front and rear swing arms, check motors for signs of leakage. Getting a sample of the hydrostatic oil tested would give a good indication of how well that side of the machine has been looked after :)

Thanks a mill Graham that’s all very helpful info, it’s red and white in colour, seems dry around the wheel motors and has 5,500 genuine hours on it! Delighted to hear parts are still readily available [emoji106] always a Bonus ?[emoji1305]
