Getting quotes for machinery

I have fallen out with local dealer and approached another dealer with view to purchase a new machine,
I had to send the manufacturer a signed letter explaining the reasons why I wanted to trade with the "out of area" dealer

You should defianatly report this - the process is anonomous and it sounfs like you maybe have hard written evidence which is rare ?

There is a reward - someone posted a link on another thread to the whistleblowers system iirc

Range rovers are cheaper "up north" fact ..
I was chatting to a sales manager of Perry's on the train once and he said sometimes London LR dealers order new cars from him as it's cheaper!

Perrys don’t have LR dealers anymore - they sold Rocars Moore a while ago - Perry’s chairman is a good friend of mine

I like the idea but...

Having been told at least twice recently by two global manufacturers that to deal with someone outside my area would require me to speak to the manufacturers area manager face to face and explain to him why I definitely will not deal with my in area dealer I'm wondering how this will work.

I'm aware that these team orders are unsporting at best and illegal at worst but when your business relies upon buying and selling a decent bit of machinery each year you shouldn't but actually do need some good will from your dealers.

Maybe thy shouldn't take the hump and still want to service it but to be fair to them I don't blame them, if a customer of mine asks someone from away to do work for him I normally do and then asks me to come and do something in a rush myself and most of us here would probably do it because we are decent but there wouldn't be much good will.

I think manufacturers need to sort their act out, if there were no team orders then the ill feeling wouldn't be there so much as it's not "their patch"

If I had a couple of tractors that would last 5 or 7 years I think I would feel differently but when you rely on working with people very regularly I find goodwill is very important.

I see this has got potential, its all going to depend on whether people buy into it or not.
How many dealers is the sheet sent to for quoting?

I have been both sides of the above fence, but reading this thread is horrific!! The tail is wagging the dog. How many threads are there on the TFF about bottom line, no money in Ag, people getting out because of the cost of farming.....yet some are "worried" that they will have to buy out of area, or have to have a chat with the local area rep. Bring it on I say. Quite simply it's price fixing, which is illegal.

Do we have any lawyers on here that can quote Chapter and Verse?

next time someone tells you the cant quote out of area get it in email etc and report it

as farmers we are simply letting the law be broken here and paying more as a result

why are the NFU etc not on this kind of thing like a tonne of bricks ? there is enough evidence in this thread alone to trigger the competition commisions interest surely

I'd be concerned that when you have put time and effort in, and given your best achievable price, customer then wheels into local dealer's yard and asks them to match it or beat it, or feels comfortable to pay a bit more to keep goodwill etc.
Are you prepared to be used as a pricing agency, but not actually generate any sales?

it happens, we have seen it happen on Farm Marketplace with some users just using it to beat up existing suppliers
