Girl shot in London, again...

Is this because of: cultural 'enrichment' i.e. mass immigration; the 'community' not being 'supported'; too little policing; too much policing i.e. stop and search; insufficiently harsh sentencing; political cowardice / head -burying, or what?

too little policing; too much policing

This is an odd paradox and not necessarily comparable, but the two countries I have visited and felt safest were Norway and Dubai, neither of which seem to have a visible police presence on the streets.

Norway is a very liberal culture and Dubai is probably the opposite.

I too was shocked to hear that London is heading towards 200 murders in 2018.

Are the victims or perpetrators linked to a particular demographic?

Lets think....
To start "the community" (EG: Black Asian Minority Ethnic BAME as it is known) complained bitterly about prejudicial stop & search.

The Police adopted a "hands off" approach & brought in reams of paperwork if an officer stopped a BAME person.

The very same people who complained are now committing more crime against each other.....

I`m no rocket scientist but I think the two are linked....

Has this girl been shot before.:scratchhead:

I suspect farmers and country dwellers aren't the best people to answer this question, but in my simplistic mind I see it as a problem of cultural tribalism. And until these groups have confidence in, and are prepared to cooperate with, the police the situation can't improve.

Sometimes it's best to let a problem develop.

The current situation is not large enough to deal with nor small enough to ignore.

Question will be whether the public will continue to get "News" reports in the media .. from what I have seen recently I doubt it.

All of those. Bring back the death penalty or some other modes of corporal punishment. When I was a kid everybody carried a knife, part of the boy scout`s essential equipment. People did not use them as weapons because murder could be the result and hanging was the punishment. The snowflakes have had their say and their method does not work so time to get real and stop the rot.

Only half listen to the news these days, but isn't knife crime up a lot too ?
What's going on ?
Slack policing, don't lean too hard on the minorities, too many immigrants from poor cultures and standards, soft judiciary , bad parenting, no respect or discipline in schools, freedom of expression rules before basic behaviour and sympathetic co-existence is instilled and with each successive generation the problem gets worse.

From what little I know (Daughter worked in this area.) I would put money in the lad(s) who were responsible for pulling the trigger were under 25. Macho culture as well. From what I read of young American gun toting, prison dewlling young men there is a time when they will blame everyone else & society, all except themselves. My wife explains that the human brain is not properly mature until 27 so this attitude may drop off from this age.
On the actual shooting, I'm just so sad another young life has gone irrespective of whoever it was.
& I miss llamedos & Landyman. :(

Society is blamed for everything. The nanny state, the pressures of life. with some concerns being real but too many excuses for throwing in the towel. The family unit has disintegrated and everything and everybody is now somebody else's responsibility.

Alcohol affordability index (as well as per capita consumption) being at all-time high.

Young people barely drink compared to when I was young.

If alcohol was the problem then you'd expect massive problems on the Hungarian / Austrian border ? Tallin ? St Petersburg ?

It's about drugs & money ..
Not sure about young people in particular, but several studies show the overall consumption is on a steady rise since 1960's. I think you'll find that murders of (or by) teenagers are over-represented in the media (the loss of such a young life is almost invariably very tragic, and, forgive me my cynicism, sells well); the bulk of the homicide data is probably made up of domestic violence cases and drunken incidents.
Tallinn is just a village, and Saint Petersburg has double the murder rate of London. Not so sure about the Hungarian / Austrian border?

Not trying to diminish the role of drugs and money. Poverty is certainly a very important factor.

People in the UK have absolutely no concept of poverty. The word poverty is bandied around like a magic bullet.
Its all relative but there is a vast difference between what you NEED and what you WANT &, if its the latter, get out and graft for it don`t be naive enough to think it will be "quick & easy".

I agree that poverty is a very hackneyed expression. Some people live in poverty but many inflict it upon themselves. Their priorities in life are drugs, alcohol, tobacco, tattoos, Sky sub, iPhone and then it's off to the food bank because there is nothing left for the real essentials.

Have any of you ever ventured into Walthamstow, especially after dark?

London had a rapidly growing problem with gangs. Most gang members have no respect for anything except violence.

The police can't win, if they act against it they are racist pigs triggering riots (The 2011 riots following the shooting dead of Mark Duggan, a violent gang member). If they don't act they are "failing the public".
