Try patienceHow long does malting barley have left till pre harvest glyphosate banned on it too?
Swathings not something I'd considered.
So bloody true!!Remember this about glyphosate being found in urine samples from certain MEPs? Linky
What was not disclosed was what other substances were found in their pee… arsenic, cadmium, not to mention certain banned substances!
In Ireland here, I’ve grown a small area oats for almost 20 years and never had even considered desiccation. Sown early last year and did 4tn/ac of Isabel.Had one field do it and we’re amateurs.. head over to Ireland for big oat yields.
Cork is a few hundred miles south of us so apples & oranges. Very good yields though as I’ve heard, we’ll doneIn Ireland here, I’ve grown a small area oats for almost 20 years and never had even considered desiccation. Sown early last year and did 4tn/ac of Isabel.
Very few growers would pre harvest spray oats over here and we don’t exactly have a nice climate for harvesting.
In my experience with barley, pre harvest glyphosate makes the straw very brittle and I’d avoid it at all costs.
As someone else said, I’d prefer to keep glyphosate in the tool box for the more important jobs than risk losing it due to residues from pre harvest use.
Fair point. I worked in Scotland for a couple of years and was always amazed how things only get going way up north in September.Cork is a few hundred miles south of us so apples & oranges. Very good yields though as I’ve heard, we’ll done
Hot water works fine as in 90 plus degrees.Something to watch!
Looks like glyphosate is being banned as a desiccant for milling oats in Europe, not here at the moment but I suspect it might happen.
Is there anything left in the arsenal to desiccate uneven crops?
C B
Australia will have no issues with compliance.well that will kill oats as a break crop for many
i guess they will just get imported from outside europe now mostly
