Glyphosate wetter

Has anyone compared rain water with tap water. I’m told it’s a game changer to use soft rain water with Glyphosate and there is no need for water conditioners.

I'm sure it has been done, but rain water overcomes most of the issue of minerals (rain water is not pure either - airborne pollutants plus whatever it picks up on the roof and guttering).

I was watching a webinar by a former Monsanto employee last week who said that a good surfactant was more important than water conditioning. Tallow amine is best but I don't know if it is still available. Spryte Aqua was designed for glyphosate. Other surfactants are available like cocamine.

Didn't they ban/remove the tallow amine because that was the component of "proper" Roundup that is alleged to be carcinogenic?

It was pretty nasty stuff from memory, I don't know if the EU banned it or the manufacturers got rid of it because it was going to be an issue going forward.

I would not use any glyphosate product, premium or otherwise without an appropriate adjuvant.

When products came up for renewal they had to replace the tallow-amine before they could be re-approved. It was far more potentially harmful than glyphosate which is unusually non-toxic as pesticides go - sorry you anti-pesticde

All re-approved now. As far as I can see no authorised available adjuvants are based on tallowamine.

Basic ions in hard water react with glyphosate so rain water better than hard water - loads of evidence for this in uk & USA. Having said that, if a formulation already contains pH adjusters it is plausible that a surfactant would enhance performance more than pH adjusters (unless formulation already rich in surfactants which the better, more expensive probably are).

From memory the ions in hard water also adversely affect a few other products, I'm going entirely from memory here but I think they affected fops and dims also quite noticeably.

I would contact De Sangosse and ask them which distributor is nearest and what they suggest using. I have had some spectacular failures with glyphosate in the past and I really do think they benefit from proper adjuvants being used, whether validate or whatever else may be used as an alternative.
