Possibly the most ignorant comment to appear on this site!!! What happens if all British consumers said that about farmers "sod em we can get it cheaper abroad we don't need farmers" .. You said earlier you don't get any reps call, by your post you come across as a tosser so I can see why !!

If you think that looks ignorant, you've clearly not looked far on here

I think you may be taking Nick's comments out of context

You don't know him but if you did you'd realise that is a very inaccurate judgement on someone who quietly goes out of his way to help folks

He just dislikes being ignored by reps

I don't know him but the way I read it was he doesn't have much time for reps! I have possibly taken it out if context

I can see where nick's coming from.. buying say a german hydraulic top link.. If you can order it straight from germany rather than your local dealer and save £50, Why not! It's your money and it's damn'd hard earned.. The parts men have had a very good run for many decades now. This magic retail price thing needs blowing apart with global online ordering. Sorry if that sounds tough, but if we are price takers then they should be too..

I have plenty of time for reps but being a small farmer I get ignored regularly.impossibke to get stuff on demo too despite having money to spend.its not just ag reps.some construction dealers just as bad and car salesmen.talking to a friend earlier who has been waiting over a week for a quote on a new truck.thanks to referring to me in the way you did and straight back at you

On the flip side to the comments about sales people walking off when the customer explains he isn’t buying, I was recently at rickebys claas driving day. As soon as I arrived I was approached by a sales persom and I explain straight away I wasn’t buying I was there just for a nose round the tractors and his exact words were “no problem, jump on any of the tractors any have a go and am happy to talk you through any questions you may have”. So even tho he knew I wasn’t buying he still spent nearly a hour talking me through a arion 660 and giving me the keys to have a spin on it.
When I had to go he shuck my hand and said nice chatting to you.
I Found him a genuinely nice chap.

To be fair it @nick... he is one of the nicest people you could meet. It just goes to show how wrong you can be by reading replies on here... it’s similar to email conversations. Both sides can read an email wrong . That’s why it’s so much better to telephone!

I totally agree. You hear quite a few bad reports about reps and sales people but I found that chap first class. Hopefully I will bump into him at the rickerbys spring show next month to thank him once again for his time that day.

Thank you for all the feedback - a great selection of good and bad traits, and on the face of it, the do's and don'ts all seem fairly obvious but I imagine it can be harder to put them into practise at times, otherwise every sales rep would do them? Or does it just come down to laziness?!

Be careful of people trying to take advantage of your inexperience.

Was speaking to salesman yesterday , they'd a chap come in and order 320k pounds worth of machinery. 2 tractors and a manitou wrote a cheque for it, needless to say it bounced! Had put in a big order at local quad dealer too, he'd ordered stock but luckily hadn't parted with them.

Don't go round the countryside spreading gossip about other farmers would be another good tip. It will soon catch up with you.

Don't sleep with the farmers wife if hes not at home. Or his daughter.

is it ok to sleep with farmers wife/ daughter if he is at home
