I don’t think history will be very kind to Brown. Iraq and the war on terror was the defining decision in the new Labour era. That disastrous chain of decisions were taken by a small cabal of people in a very dishonest way. In the end Blair forced the then cabinet to sign up to a pack of illegal lies. Brown himself, only offered public support at the last moment, did he really believe in that murderous enterprise? We’ll never know, however the marginal figures of Clare Short and Robin Cook certainly did a better job of representing my views, than Brown or that religious nutter Blair.
