Hi Static. Delivering Milling wheat with ergot to a merchant store is subject to cleaning charges. delivering Ergot directly to a mill will result in a rejection, re-direction and cleaning charges. Lack of BG is not an open and shut case for the presence of ergot.

What would the charge for ergot cleaning to a merchant store then? I would presume that not all merchant stores would be equipped to clean ergot out? I am aware of the nature of the life of an ergot; was merely saying that the presence thereof was not a symptom of being a substandard farmer.

Agree not a sign of a substandard farmer. I would suggest a merchant with an intake of milling wheat would have suitable facilities to cope with problems such as ergot, screening, lo kg weights and low hags. Charges last year for cleaning and gravity separation for hagberg came out at a total cost of £10 per mt. One must also account for all the crap which also came out. This crap was recirculated back through the system where a further % was claimed back, a greater %was then sold as feed wheat, and the rest was unmarketable chaff and husk.
