Grass seed shortage.

I have been told twice now to get my requirements in early as seed will be very tight. A Combination of demand for reseeding after a dry summer and coupled with a terrible grass seed crops in europe mainly due to the Scandanavian drought.
Any one else heard this .?

No one seems to be panicking here yet. Got delivery of HF grass seed yesterday to sow after vining peas and has the same batch number as the stuff I got from them in March.

Probably will be a bit shorter than usual so the one thing for sure is that it wont get cheaper than it is now.

No mention of a shortage when I made enquiries a few weeks ago. Just the usual warning that if I want something different to order it in plenty of time, but I already knew that.

Italian & Hybrid Ryegrasses have been short since the beginning of the year hence their rise in price

Grass mixtures out of their catalogue from the big seed houses should be ok through to the end of the season as they would of done their sums last winter & made sure there is sufficient seed.

I've been finding with some special mixes I can't always get a certain variety in a mix as it's all gone.

Straights seem to be ok at the moment.

Organic for special mixes, a nightmare.

Price is never talked up to my mind, seed production & wheat prices are the biggest influences.

had the same thing here in dry years poor harvests prices rise due to poor seasons
last year cocksfoots were sold out. early in the season. due to poor harvest year before
This could well be the third successive year for poor yields in the UK and Europe the poor exchange rate with the dollar will restrict importing from North America too I'd of thought.

Price nearly doubled in tbe recent past so i think there is plenty of slack in tbe system to soak it up .like most things shortage pushes price up and it never drops back again
