Grass silage thoughts

If i had to shut up more fields for 2nd and 3rd cut, i would need to house my highs at nights all summer as they wouldn’t have enough ground.
At least this way i get to drop my feeder off for a few months and i go into the Winter with the clamps mostly full of 1st cut.

After 10 years of constantly buying silage I can firmly say that it’s much more profitable to fill your clamps with bought silage and brewers grains than it is to not graze your ground, in a normal year I could buy silage and grass cheaper than I could make it, okay maybe your cows won’t milk as well but you’ll make more money

I’m 39, lad that works for me is 36. Two years ago I was away on holiday in Feb. Feed box broke down that we fill a trough in a shed for 100+ cattle. He couldn’t fix it, no phone call to me, several heaps with the loader down the edge of the trough and 20min with one of them each end of the day, job done. I did it for 3 days when I got back while waited for parts. By the 3rd day, fitness improved and the only problem was the time it took. Felt much healthier.
