Those gripple wire cutters are total rubbish. The bolt holding them together snaps way too easily

Same kit is available here for £169.95 but I would agree with @Dave6170 the cutters aren't up to much and sometimes I find you buy things in these bits and bobs kits you never use.

Thats who I bought them from, they sent me a replacement straight away when the first 1 broke and they snapped the first day I used them.

I generally stay well away from gripples. Helped my dad repair/tighten up vine wires because loads of the gripples had slipped.

They have their place, we use them for diagonal tie-back on strainers, used with the tightening tool gets you in and out quick but we crimp the wire with stainrite ferrules after as wouldn't trust the gripple over time. Only started using Gripples as we harvest them off the rolls of sheep wire.

That's what they where designed for. They just market them for fencing to gain a bigger market but they aren't strong enough to hold the tension required in fencing.

If we use them we tie a termination know at each side of the gripple, nowhere to slip then.
They can prolapse sometimes
They have there place for repairs and awkward pulls and temporary fencing

never actually used them to be honest , still in the bottom of the bag , bought a set of maun pliers years ago and use these

I personally think Gripples a brilliant, although I only use them on electric fencing. Have got some that must be 20 years old and no problems with them. Occasionally a deer will go through the wire and pull it apart at the Gripple but you can just push it back in and they still work fine. I've never bothered with the tool so I don't know how good they are.

I’ve used hundreds in post and wire orchards, they’ve needed a little tweak to tighten them up in winter, but that’s more to do with the stress of a summer on the wires. Never had one fail, and some had been used several times.

The different types of tension tool should Only apply up to the same ultimate recommended tension (400kg force) not more, or else the gripple will let go .

Even The cheaper plasticcy ones will happily , its just they have less leverage so popeye would need to use his thumbs instead of little fingers
so how bout just add longer handles in some way

Used them on some new paddocks with the Tornado Wire. Seem ok two years, in but do check them when I am walking past
