Has this 'summer' not put you off the idea of making hay then?
If that is the route they want to go down they should be highly motivated to want cows, do heaps of research first and choose wisely.Getting a couple of in calf cows is a fairly easy way to start .
If you have little mechanical experience, then running a cheap baler could be lead to the use of a wig?I always think that the baling is the most time critical operation - miss that afternoon when it is ready and miss the quality altogether.
If nothing else, get a baler.
Haybobs are cheap, so get one.
Contract out the mowing.
I think you are right, we keep Sussex because I knew a few other in the area who did, and the reasons they chose them. Docility, doing off forage alone and eating quality. What steered you? @choochterIf that is the route they want to go down they should be highly motivated to want cows, do heaps of research first and choose wisely.
(Just thinking back to when I started my suckler herd in 2007)
