Heaviest ring rolls

I’m looking for a tidy set of 6-8m ring rolls. Need to be as heavy as possible as springs just seem to get drier!!!
Suggestions on heavier reliable sets or know of anything worth having

Vaderstat ones are heavy with the breaker rings but they are a small diameter compared to others. Found that unless it was dry as a bone they picked loads of mud up!

If you want weight you want 24' + Breaker Rings. plenty of options Heva, Cousins, NRH, Terratech usually work out about 1 Tonne per m

Have seen a few sets of bigger diameter rings 30-32' but only seen straight cambridge rings and were none hyd folding only centre and pups but I'm sure Terratech or others could build you what you want if you can find a source or these sort of rings if that was what you were after

We've just changed a set of 6m vaderstad for a set of 8m Heva with 24" breaker rings .
We've not used them yet but still got peas to drill so will try them soon.

I can't figure out if bigger rings with more weight will be better ? I've always been told putting taller tyres on a tractor spreads the weight on a longer footprint is it the same with rollers ? .

There's a big weight difference between 6m vaderstad and 8m heva

The taller tyre aspect works because it is soft and air filled so flex comes into it.
With the rings, yes the diameter is different therefore more in contact than smaller set but the weight offsets this.

Very pleased with my 8 metre set from Terra Tech the best built rolls I have ever seen. 24 inch rings, I’ll add some paddles at some point to them.

Try Watson, they are very well built. Personally I wouldn’t have a set of ring rolls without paddles. I’ve used these for levelling out poached grass paddocks, they’ve virtually made the flat roll redundant. If you’ve got stoney ground you can get ductile rings as an option. Brakes are also standard, critical on a set of rolls if they’re really heavy.

Agreed, Watson is cracking kit! Sadly they didn’t do 12m rolls when I bought mine, does anyone know if they do now?

Agree about brakes if going down the road too!

Bigger rings will be lighter to pull if the going gets wet (which shouldn't happen in the optimal world, so it happens).

Really like our He-Va, but do keep in mind that i've no experience on other makes. They were a cool 8k€ cheaper than an equivalent Väderstad. Only thing we did to it was to change the narrow 260mm wide tyres to 440mm wide trailer tyres, which we had laying around. Made it far more stable on road and now it won't sink to the field when unfolding or folding.

We’ve got the older vertical fold vaddys and they seem far too light

Tonnes per metre is just a number. Your Vaderstad rolls may have a higher ground pressure because their footprint is shorter from the lower diameter rings. 30" Cambridge rolls are available from several manufacturers like Cousins and these will have a heavier total weight and less rolling resistance (no pun) because the angle of attack of the roll when it first touches the ground will be shallower. HeVa have the SAT system to spread the weight of the centre frame out to the wings. I used to have a 8.2m set which were ok but the bearings didn't last a long time though that's not HeVa's fault. I have Cousins Contour rolls which have very poor weight transfer to the wings but I chose them because they fold vertically which makes adding seeder pipes and a hopper mounting easier.

What kind of finish do you want and what kind of soil do you have? Serrated ring ridges and breaker rings will do a better job on heavier soils but wear faster on stony soils. I like the dimples left by serrated rolls as I think it makes the finish more weather proof. 24" is the biggest diameter you can get breaker rings for as far as I've seen. IMO breaker rings help keep the ring gangs cleaner if it's a bit tacky but they do chew a lot of plants up when rolling a growing crop.
