Hedge Cutting, glass protection?

Pretty straight forward query chaps.... (and chapesses)

Looking at the purchase of a small flail hedge cutter for dealing with the hard to reach and awkward hedges around the farm*, as well as some of the bigger garden hedges that test my patience with a hand held machine these days! It'll be mounted on my Kioti 50hp compact which is fully cabbed up etc.

What is the best method for protection of the glasswork? Mesh, and if so, what size section that still gives good visibility? Or perspex, mounted close to the windows??

* This winter, that could be said about all of the grassland and a lot of the arable!!

Change glass for the thickest marguard you can fit. The thicker stuff is pretty safe and very clear. Ask the specialists for off cuts.

I cant stand mesh. Get massive headaches and dizziness within 10 mins of starting. And no , they dont dissipate in time.
I use a perspex on the door and nothing on the side window as the visibility is too impaired with any protection. Never broke a side window yet. Did break a door before I used the perspex though.

No window protection here either, but we are using 8 metre reach.
I think mesh would do for you, make it so it swings out so you can clean the window, if you have plastic you end up cleaning 3 windows.

Just keep the claims going in?? ;)

Interested on your comments on mesh guards. I guess a big enough mesh size to see through, reduces the protection?

We have a small Bomford linkage mounted cutter and I've never used any guards. The cuttings generally don't hit the glass as they tend to go forward, so if anything bonnets and filters are more at risk from dings and scratches.

I use Marlon FSX which is a polycarbonate 5 or 6 mm thick I think and held onto the glass by suction cups, the wheel rim guards by bungee type cord and the bonnet guard by metal brackets bolted to the tractor chassis. Unfortunately not tech savvy to post photos.
