Hedge trimmer brackets.

Any opinions on the most practical sort of hedge trimmer brackets for axle mounting?

Retro fitting a set so exploring all options.

In this instance the trimmer is a twyman and the tractor is a t series Valtra.

Any pictures obviously appreciated.
Thanks.

Just wanted to know how do you like your Twyman hedge trimmer?

6.5m telescopic with a 5 foot head running oil over oil joystick controls on it makes it a weapon on your own farm. Same old issues with dealer backup ie none and if you ever try to sell it you’ll be told that it’s not a bomford or mc Connell.
I like it and it suits my farm but it’s heavy and geometry isn’t as neat as others.
if you’re off contracting I’d stick with a 4 foot head as it’s better on silly contours.
I like mine but would probably look for a bomford next time as rotor bearings are better, paint doesn’t fall off and hydraulics don’t play up like mc Connell seem to do.
given up sourcing brackets. I just go steady when necessary.

Thank you for your reply.

I don't know if oil running over the joystick controls is a bad thing as this will certainly prevent them from rusting up! :D

I have a Twyman post knocker. It's not that robust however, it does the job! It often needs welding up, but I know people with Wrag post drivers and they tell me they break every time they use them! So a Twyman doesn't seem too bad after all. They do take a battering when they knock in gate posts.

I don't know whether to buy a Twyman hedge trimmer or not as they seem cheap enough and I hear good and bad things about them. A Bomford would probably be my top choice too. I quite like the Spearhead but they make quite a bit of money despite being 20 years old and getting parts for them I hear can be long winded.
I'm not so keen on the McConnel.

You said the dealer backup is a problem. I had my post knocker through Vincent's and they never keep any parts in stock for anything I've ever bought from them. I find Blakewell Services better by a country mile than Vincent's. They are so much more knowledgeable and keep parts in stock and not at a stupid price like most dealerships. Thanks again.

My trimmer was devtrac and subsequently blakewells.
I asked VT about axle brackets so it’s a small world. Trimmer is strong enough but like the spearhead, you need to ‘want’ to spend the extra money.
it’s often a matter of productivity and use over cost. I’d like a barn full of shiny kit with all the right brands but in practice I’d settle for the barn and no finance!
good luck.
