Hi, I am a final year student at Harper Adams University and I am looking for potato growers who would be willing to either fill out a questionnaire or would be happy for me to give them a call to ask a few questions for my dissertation focusing on:
"Studying the distance in which it becomes unprofitable for UK potato growers to rent land from their main farm base."
With the high capital costs wrapped up in potato production it is understood that many growers seek to rent land on seasonal agreements to achieve economies of scale and reduce rotational constraints with PCN issues on own land. With limited land available for short term rental in the UK, my hypothesis is that growers are experiencing high rental costs in areas that are suitable for growing potatoes and are forced in some respect to seek land further away from their farm base with competition from other potato growers in the local area.
I understand this is not ideal timing with planting, however any help would be much appreciated. Participants would receive a copy of the study when completed in which it would be hoped that they could learn something from it. Please let me know below if you are interested and I will be in touch.
Many Thanks,
Ben
