So what's wrong with me now?

had my diabetic checkup the other day....hba1c is mega high but I don't think it's linked to the rest. Sorting some continuous glucose monitoring for assistance here.

resting heart rate of 85 plus and BP of 160 over 80/90. Feet seem a little swollen when I put my boots on in the morning too. 60kg and 44years old.

oh dear. Booked in for an ecg, should have been the week just gone but the gp ran out of sticky pads.

It could be so many things. When I connect myself to a monitor to check it, my BP is always really high. to the point of me doing a 24 hour measurement on myself - of course it was totally fine and it turns out my own BP seems to go slightly mad when I initially take it!!! Ankles and blood levels - have the ecg and any other tests. Don't panic and be a good boy when it comes to taking the advice and meds ;)
Continuous monitoring is a game changer for many !!

Do you wear a Fitbit or anything similar? I find mine is a really good way to keep an eye on things as you just go about your daily business without thinking about it.
Definitely notice a difference when I’m doing a lot of legwork. Lambing I’ll do 25-30,000 steps a day and my resting heart rate will gradually drop to 55-57. I’m 55 and 80kg (5’9). Otherwise it can be in the low 60’s.
Having said all of that, it’s possibly not worth getting too hung up on numbers. I spoke to a friend yesterday who’s nowhere near as fit as me but has a resting heart rate of around 50.

Is 85 a dangerous heart rate? It'd be nice to be lower but I don't think 85 is a huge problem. BP needs to come down though. It can vary quite a lot during the day but you prob know that, and it should be measured after you've been relaxing for a while. 60kg? I wish.

85 is not an usual resting heart rate- anywhere between 60 and 100 beats per minute is considered typical. If you are significantly lower than this then it would need to be investigated unless you are some kind of athlete.

Blood pressure is a slightly different matter and I agree it would be considered high but we don't know what pre-existing conditions or medications the OP might be involved with.

Swelling in the lower limbs may also give clues and a doctor should be made aware of it if they are not already.

Just so people will be aware, the 'home' blood pressure monitors (I got one on loan from the NHS) seem to be inaccurate and that is confirmed by Google. Mine was not beeping when it had done the test, so I decided to do repeat measurements with 5 minutes rest in between as per the instructions. The latest tests were done lying in bed, so under pretty near identical conditions.

Readings yesterday pm varied between 163/73 and 149/75 -- 3 readings, and this morning 135/67 and 147/71 -- 5 readings. I am 81, so yes a bit high anyway. But is this level of accuracy acceptable? Better than nothing I suppose!

When I test mine I always do it again 5-10 minutes later, the second one is always lower and usually where it should be. That's the one I consider accurate. :)

I personally think my home blood pressure monitor saved my life or major life altering changes in January of this year.
Id awoken in the night with a massive migraine at the lower back of my head/ neck area and took medication for it but it wouldn’t shift and after several hours it still wouldn’t let go and I’d been feeling really sick but not being and with chest tightness . Around lunch time I happened to think whether there was more to it as had been suffering with migraines for a while and more regularly and knew wife had a BP monitor to which on asking she found and set up on me. The results were alarming as when she would not believe the results so she tried it on my daughter and the BP monitor was actually working fine.
Went to A&E and my BP was read at 250 something over I can’t remember but nurse said the machine couldn’t be working as no way could anyone walk in at that but second machine confirmed exactly the same.
Admitted to hospital for a stay and given morphine to ease my migraine and have been on BP tablets since but in all honesty they have taken some sticking due to high doses but hopefully side effects will ease over time.
Went onto Losartan and Doxazosin but after a few months the Doxazosin side effects still weren’t easing and actually got considerably worst and my chest would get tight and breathing would become tight and difficult within 20 paces at times and especially up hill as could barely put one foot in front of the other.
Spoke to my doctor and he said to stop the Doxazosin and swapped me to Amlodipine which has eased things.
Home BP monitors save lives 👍. Stokes , heartaches and Aneurysms kill people.

Sorry to read of your problems but if you look at my post again, I do say it recorded high blood pressure which is what I had. Just be aware that they are not 100% accurate. Glad you are OK and it worked for you.
