Does anyone use a wearable BP monitor linked to their phone?

BB
Is there such a thing? How valuable would it be given BP should be measured when you're resting? I suppose it could work if it highlighted the lowest readings during a 24hr period and ignored most of the other readings?

The inflatable arm/cuff type things are very similar to what we use in hospital. They are reasonably accurate- I will normally get similar readings with a syphymanometer which uses the exact same way of measuring you. Beware though obviously your body varies around a bit- are you sat down, laid down, stood up, well rested, stressed, tired, etc etc etc- these all effect the results. If you have unusual results then take them again 10 minutes later, and repeat it again and again. Try a different arm. If still uncertain ring the NHS helpline.

The kind of IR light monitors you get on your phone or smart watch (mine does this) are not that accurate when it comes to measuring things. They can measure your pulse and Sp02 and that is about your lot. I still would not rely on them too much.

Ideally, once a month take 3 resting BP readings morning and evening over 3 days and work out the average - 18 readings in all. Usually evening readings will be higher.
BP goes up and down all day. Just taking lots of resting readings is the best advice and record times of day to build up a picture. A single reading in isolation is utterly worthless.

Went to doctors last week for a check up and found I'd got high blood pressure.
They've just done a 24hr monitoring and I averaged 167/103 which apparently is high, so have been put on ramipril.
Oddly I've got a slower than average heart rate.

Sit down somewhere comfortable…upright with your feet on the ground.
Nothing to eat or drink for an hour or so before…
Make sure when you fit the cuff it is or around the level of your heart.
Try to do it when there is no one around.
RELAX
Empty your mind….
Take a reading…..write it down
Then another ….write it down
Keep going, maybe half a dozen times…
Often the early readings are affected by the general excitement of doing the test.
Usually the readings will reduce the more readings you take….
Unless of course there is something seriously wrong…..but then the readings will be very much more extreme.
Swollen ankles need a doc to look at the situation…

When I used to swim about 2 miles a week my heart rate was about 60. BP was still high ish though. Since lockdown I have not swum and resting HR is now about 70. I definitely need to get back in the pool.

I went to the doctors about 4 years ago at this time of year as I was getting puffy legs and discoloration on the lower parts of my legs. On the third go of a blood pressure test after being told to relax and think happy thoughts it was reading 226/154.
I was sent sraight to the pharmacy and put on Amlodapine and told to take it easy
It turns out that I have cardio vascular problems and also am on Atorvastatin and Ramiprill. Blood pressure is down and stays pretty stable, still have the blotchy legs and I don't half feel the cold more than I did when I was younger

So what's wrong with me now?

had my diabetic checkup the other day....hba1c is mega high but I don't think it's linked to the rest. Sorting some continuous glucose monitoring for assistance here.

resting heart rate of 85 plus and BP of 160 over 80/90. Feet seem a little swollen when I put my boots on in the morning too. 60kg and 44years old.

oh dear. Booked in for an ecg, should have been the week just gone but the gp ran out of sticky pads.
Get your Thyroid function checked.
