Here is a perfect example of a low magnesium soil that actually is a high magnesium soil.
In the top box on the attached photo page the Magnesium index is 1, and a pH of 8.3, so a typical 'RB209' recommendation would be kieserite.
BUT if you move down to the base saturations in the second box you can see that the calcium percentage is huge (89%) and the magnesium is very low 3.8%. But the effective magnesium percentage is 25% which is very high, and there is over 6 tonnes of total magnesium/hectare.
So the actual conclusion is we don't need to add any more magnesium, and if we did, it wouldn't alter the index or the base saturation because of all the calcium within the soil.
