Holstein Bulls

First Troy calves due in May here. Still using Alcove, Dealmaker, Ryder red and Celebrate.
Alcove left his stamp here. Strongest cows in the herd are by alcove. I’ve found Captain x Alcove to be a really nice cross here, have a few heifers milking with the top one projected 15,304 in 305 days.

Nice to know, got three alcove heifers in milk here, I think they all had Rocky daughters (Captain son).

Last heifer to calve was a Vader, my favourite one to calve down for a few years, will see how she goes

I've got a really nice vader from my satin family, back incalf to sexed Rock red from cogent! Found her a little prone to Mastitis I won't lie, but that could be due to me not her 🙈

Always make me happy when others are using the same as me!

Just think chase is a really nice "no holes" bull. Not top of the tree for anything, but can use him on pretty much anything!
Indeed!

I find HUK's sire popularity page interesting to look at. Especially when there are bulls I've not even considered high up on list, yet they have been really popular- the why, fascinates me.

Very much a case of what am I missing!?

Really good looking at that. Such a massive variation on it too right from mega type show type right down to grass based bulls. Surprised to see so many high type bulls on there to be honest, I didn’t think many were a fan of that. Stanton’s chief is well up there, I’m going fairly hard on him at the moment. Surprised Applejax is number one on the list. I thought he would have fazed out after so long.

Presumably it only counts pedigree registered calves born? Not sure what the split pedigree/commercial will be nationwide, but certainly will be a variance of breeding goals.

Edit: latest figures I could find was "<40% of UK dairy herd is pedigree registered"

It is only a list of registered progeny. But it's incredible how even within pedigree breeding, the 'perfect cow' is unique to each herd.
