How far off is harvest?

For anybody, anywhere, caught up by this awful drought, it's not just the timing, but the possibility that it might not work at all.

Funnily enough, the last time this happened to us, in 1976, was the very first year it came out.

It was then a bit north of £100/litre (in today's money).

Cutting barley in east Sussex now .Not crimp either

We're deliberately not starting until tomorrow, so as not to create yet another unwanted record for my disaster scrapbook.

Unfortunately, linear droughts like this one tend very sharply to reduce the harvest interval between the succeeding crops.

So this July's going to be rather busy.

Barley wants a good two weeks post roundup. OSR a good three weeks. Both will be better with another week on top.

Yes, but when do you start cutting it? Glyphosate has a 14 day harvest interval in osr & W barley has a 7 day interval. In reality barley doesn't turn until at least day 10 and osr doesn't start drying properly until 18+ days.

If they are under stress at the time of spraying then you can add another 5 days to that. By spraying at 5am instead of 10am you can knock a day or two off.
