How long before biggest dealers pack up

Went into Lloyds the other day! New entrance with automatic doors ,massive roller doors for getting the display items in and a lady sitting at the desk wished me good morning! Presume she is there to answer phone! Went straight to stores where 4 storepersons were sitting computing, chatting etc! Got my goods but left thinking that my small purchase had a hell of a lot of overheads! I have been told what the new entrance cost but don't want to repeat it as nobody would believe me:oops:
My son works there , great to work for , hope they do well, but it has come on along way since kelso tractors days 😂

There are farm machinery dealers in countries where they have no subsidies. I therefore predict that dealers will be a thing long after any subsidies are long gone in Europe.

having recently spent some time with a (VERY) large Ukraine farming company they also have extremely cheap land and VERY low fixed costs - pre war they were making fortunes out of £150/t wheat

Does this type of system not already exist with JD forestry equipment?

Same with large plant brands . Finnings control CAT sales and service
Long gone Agricar salesman said to me the CAT/Finning model would be how tractor sales & service would be in future.

This was in the early 1990’s so it’s taken its time but does seem to be almost here now.

An awful lot of stock tractors in dealers yards the moment. Manufacturers trying to to drum up interest with 0% deals.
Maybe if they dropped the price instead they might shift some

Ultimately you really need a guy in a truck who works from home selling the stuff and several well trained and well paid guys with big vans full of gear who can maintain the stuff. As you say the forestry and mining equipment isn't hauled back to a dealership every time it needs fixing, they are only carted back when they enter a re-man phase in which case they have to go right back to the factory.
You don't need anyone selling it, you spec it yourself on the internet between you & the JD/CNH/AGCO chat-bot, you want it, you'll buy it. the onus is on you then if its U/S because you spec'd it, the van guys look after it with their computer, parts list & 24hr parts supply chain, if its proper fecked it goes back to the hub on a truck its a far more streamlined & simpler model than what currently exists assuming there will also be less 'farmers' disrupting the system.
The only unknown will be who owns the Hubs & how far the manufacturers operating hand is up the Hub owners a*se

I assume it was a lot more then 2 gates tied in the middle with baler twine

It will be similar in other parts of Europe/North or South America. Big kit with very low labour input, put seed in the ground, spray the weeds out and the weather does the rest. Some years harvest good yields, other years 30% of it won't be worth cutting but if your fixed cost base is low enough does it particularly matter?

It's probably replaced 4 other depots they have closed. so maybe not as inefficient as you think.

Can get anything delivered next day on Amazon. Manufacturers need to sort out similar ordering/dispatch systems.
In this day n age we should have full access to online parts for every machine & implement with a next day del service
only a select few have this atm to the likes of of us the farmer.

Easy when the land is basically stolen or for next too no rent & its 5ft deep black soil some of the best in the world so i believe
No RT & next too none of the huge list of carry we have in the western world id bet.

Manufacturers i imagine own large stake of biggest dealers.

Too big to fail.
But Manufacturers could fail, or be joined up to another for £1.
Leyland disappeared, David Brown and International became Case. thenCNH. Ford became NewHolland then CNH.

Lots of Ag dealers involved in plant as well. In many area's that has shrunk more than Ag.

I saw a jd r series with 12 row beet drill on way back from mart Saturday....so top of range at least 145hp?....I suppose you need that to get an operator these days?

thing is 30 years ago an 85 hp tractor costing a tenth (?) woulda been on the job

how does the depreciation stack up?

'Green eye' on my neighbour I reckon he's got circa £600k's worth kit on 400acs

spin 'rambles' whilst waiting for ewe to have second after pulling first full breach🙄

I sure hope not.
CAT/Finnings are the reason I'd have given up on CAT telehandlers years ago if I hadn't found an independent.

Arrogant, eye wateringly expensive, and often a very 2nd rate level of service
(as in a spotty tw4t who could only do as the laptop told him...despite it being manifestly clear the laptop was wrong)
Terms of business?
Either you have an account, which requires you to give them a bank mandate to take money direct...or...you pay up front before they visit!
A real shame, as the core products have been very solid.
Hey ho.
I used to keep a new CAT th, but can't see that happening now.

With the way things are and no improvement on the horizon ,how long will it be before a huge dealer shuts up shop.they mostly got very large expensive premises and massive stocks of parts and machines but they will be suffering the same as the smaller dealers.seems to be a weekly occurrence of dealers closing shop.Deere, agco and cnh won’t subsidise these company’s for ever.have seen on social media earlier about a huge jd dealer having possible issues already.
nick…
Next 6-12 months could be interesting times
Loads of expensive used stock in yards, either on o/d or stocking finance when bank base rate has increased from 2% (2 years ago) to over 5% (plus the margin) now
It must be hurting machinery dealers somewhat, I guess as sales of kit get sparser
