How many trailers will we need to keep a forager going on an 8 mile cart home? Heavy first cut grass. Cheers.

Sod the forager, what can the pit man cope with? Too many people focus on keeping the forager moving and forget that they can easily lose it all by waiting at the pit, plus if it comes in too fast then it doesn't get rolled properly.

Digester crews here run between 8 and 12 for maize, not sure how that compairs to a grass crop

Self propelled outfit round here running 8 on a 18 mile round trip forage waiting for trailers

I help a neighbour out on silage on a 16 mile trip round trip, trailed forager and there's 5-6 10t trailers on, mix of 50k and 40k tractors.

If easy access and tipping 3 for the first 2 mile and 1 per 1.5 mile after that.
A lot based on the forager/chop length etc though...

That's the worst bit for buckrake man when the 40k comes into the pit with two 50k stuck up his arse, much better if there all same steady pace

Or in our area where you get local farmers come into help you can quite easily have a ‘big’ 11 ton trailer with one fella then a 8-9ton Fraser trailer behind him then a 7 ton ken woot on after that

I was leading grass at a place last year with 5-6 little trailers going flat out where 3 11-12 ton trailers would of easily kept the job going at a steady pace

My post was based on 20-24’ silage trailers which is the normal spec... anything smaller should be put into the description..
Long chop, good power and 50k tractors on good roads your talking 1-1 mile
