How much do agricultural machinery sales people get paid

Yes I think there’s a difficult few years ahead for sales but not a bad time to start small and cut teeth so to speak along side my normal living and see were things go.
Thanks for the reply 👍

I started when wheat was £54/ton which was bad apparently ( I had no real previous notion of what was what ) but quickly found it's not only Farmers who buy Kit:

Fortunately, some very wealthy Arabs who happened to love their horses in my patch so went and banged on their doors.

Studs
Local amenity
Fencing contractors
Sports Grounds
Schools
Caravan Parks
Hobby Farmers
Estates

They all buy tractors/mowers/trailers/bowsers

If you want to earn a really decent wage, my strong suspicion is don't do anything remotely connected with agriculture.

I used to do something else, and the lack of money in ag is startling.

Sure tractors cost a lot of money, but when you think of the basic sales principles of either making a small amount on large volumes, or a large amount of smaller volumes, it seems that ag is in the sweet spot of making a small amount on small volumes. Compared to say selling shopping centres, investment products, or whatever.

Please come back and tell us where you get a salesman job as I'm sure there's a few on here who would appreciate knowing not to bother you after the responses you've given them on here
And after I was so thankful for your earlier response 😂
I did also say in my question sales person and not salesman so I’ve got the political correctness bit right.

First impressions can ruin a sales career.

The next few years will be an awful time to be selling anything that doesn't have a grant on it, and they sell themselves.

Stay where you are.
That is very true. Local Claas dealer & MF one recently had changes of sales rep.
Claas one retired after 30 odd years. Got a lot of business from us over the years. At least one, sometimes two machines a year.
MF one less so.
Still had no contact from new Claas guy who started last October.
MF one, new to sales was in with his brand new note book in his first week of starting after the new year. I let slip to his boss at calendar delivery time that I might be looking for a new grass roller.

It was nothing big but I am sure he was glad to get something in his book.

Sounds like your looking for a part time then. All well and good but if you are going full time sales there will be no half measures. You will be given multi million pound targets and expected to reach them or you'll be out the door again leaving the mobile and car keys behind. Most of these main dealers won't stand cutting your teeth and half measures once you've had a few months. They've got manufacturer targets to reach as well.

Because some people believe it or not are actually prepared to share their knowledge and help others along. If you look at my replies to the people who have tried to answer my question or to pass on advice I am very thankful and appreciate their responses

Bless, you dig yourself a hole, and then you just keep on digging.

@Claasact1 I suggest you burn your username and start afresh, as you've already managed to get yourself marked down in most peoples estimations.

For everyone else, top of the forum, "ignore thread" and "ignore user".

Just as I received from him

:scratchhead: :scratchhead::scratchhead:

Really!

You came on here asking for advice. You've had all sorts good, bad and indifferent but in the background there's been many suggestions around your attitude and how it needs to change if you are going to sell any quantity of kit.

Judging by this response you've learnt hehaw. A bit of humility will go a long way.

Exactly this I have dealt with several different firms and out of them all only two representatives have made follow up calls to see how things are going and in my book that counts for a lot and I would definitely favour doing business with them than the others that take your money and run so to speak. Thanks for your response 👍

I do understand that but absolutely no harm in cutting teeth before going to a large scale dealer and maybe even take some customer relationships there with me

I think we will have to agree to disagree on that one because I think his response was both rude and unhelpful hence the response he received.

Can be a bit of entertainment when someone just keeps keeps on digging....
Not looking at this thread again but I think it`s fair to say a thick skin is required to be a rep and that doesn`t seem to be a problem for this guy... :banghead:
