Never a truer word utteredThe main criteria for selling to farmers in particular is to be likeable, pretty much anything else can be forgiven. If they dont like you, they wont buy much from you.

I really do like your impression of someone answering a question and giving advice.Yet you shot down the very one who's in sales, earns a living from selling, answered your question and passed on his advice.
His advice was truthful, honest and as good as any other response. Yet you chose to reply with
This is no way to treat any potential customer if you intend going down the sales route.
I hope you aren’t considering a job in sales because you don’t seem cut out for dealing with peopleNot at all just don’t have a lot of time for people who type a totally non relevant answer
£200k?Thank you for the advice you have given me that is relevant to the actual question.
The reason I am asking this question is I am considering a career change and in my experience of dealing with many different machinery sales representatives is how much they lack knowledge of the equipment they are trying to sell and also a lack of follow up after you have spent your hard earned on said equipment. In my personal opinion
Which counts for nothing there shouldn’t be any reason that a very good representative couldn’t earn £200k + but an average one earning around £50k ish.
The financial side could be an option as I am very good with numbers
Thanks again.
I got told off for suggesting where one could earn considerably more than a basic machinery salesperson but still nowhere near £200k£200k?
You’re very good with numbers?
If you were very good with numbers you would know £200k for an ag sales man must be very very rare.

I did actually say around 50k but no reason an exceptional one couldn’t get that.£200k?

The force is strong today.Never going to happen, unless maybe he/she was landing major high value multi million pound machinery sales regular maybe but even then its very optimistic!
if one thought he/she could earn £200k a year then why they not just getting on with it
Its like these nutters that go on Dragons Den thinking they got a million pound business when all it boils down to is a crazy worthless idea.
I think you could expect to earn on the low side of 50kI did actually say around 50k but no reason an exceptional one couldn’t get that.
Yes aware of that so was looking for what the average of all possibilities would beArea of the country and sector would make a huge difference, someone in the milk n honey all arable area selling huge kit worth £500k+ is gonna earn more than someone trying to sell a poor stock farmer a 2nd hand bit of kit worth £5k

Yes I understand it would be a long hard slog was just wondering would it be worth the bad years to get established and provide a decent living.
thank you for your advice I appreciate it

Did I not say average would probably be around £50k ??? But everyone seems to see the 200 and presume that is what I think every sales person would make
Well he`s just had the latter from you..If he is the stand out salesman you say he is I’m sure somewhere along the line someone will of actually given him some helpful guidance rather than a nasty unhelpful response.
Not a lot of point coming on here when you already KNOW the answer.....Did I not say average would probably be around £50k ???
Thank you very much for your reply and sharing your experience40-60K depending on what and where you are selling. You'll be a cost to your employer for about 18 months until you build up your client base and trust.
You'll sell some bits of kit in your first few months ( pure enthusiasm ), think you've arrived and then, not sell anything for a while, and wonder why, then it will click. There will be good years and bad. Also, you might have a franchise/machine that's in fashion and not be able to get the supply limiting your earning potential, or conversely, you might have a yard full of stock no one wants.
Product knowledge is important but people buy people. one of the many many 80/20 rules banned about in sales.
It's hard graft, you need to go and bang on doors and you'll have your fill of knockbacks
Bon Chance.
Yes I think there’s a difficult few years ahead for sales but not a bad time to start small and cut teeth so to speak along side my normal living and see were things go.First impressions can ruin a sales career.
The next few years will be an awful time to be selling anything that doesn't have a grant on it, and they sell themselves.
Stay where you are.
