How much hardcore?

We're going to be making a sand turnout pen for the ponies, to settle a disagreement how many tonnes roughly of hardcore would you expect to use for the base for an area 10m² ?

Cube of hardcore = 1.5 to 2 ton depending on product,

That's 100m². Rightly or wrongly, the OP said 10. This may be the cause of said disagreement.

ah...the difference between 10 m squared (IE 10x10= 100)
and 10 square meters.

Then to remember a cubic meter of hardcore is approx 2 tonnes

so,
Per square meter, allow 200kgs stone per 100mm thickness.

How 'good' is stone?
How firm do you want it?

Just be warned, putting the word hardcore into Google might throw up some unexpected results

You asked for tonnage not depth,

Make sure you have good drainage. Then lay geo-synthetic fabric. Hadrcore @ 90mm down to 40mm, NO dust. That’s the hard part. Wacker.
Another layer of geo-synthetic fabric. Then silver sand or its nearest equivalent. Minimum depth 200mm. Sorted.
A wind proof fence or the sand blows and water to two points opposite one another so you can dampen it all down when the sand is very dry.
I’d suggest a 60’ circle as this is much better than a rectangle from a pony training perspective. IMO.
A quad sized gate and a trailed rake to help keep the grass weed down should be on your list

Foxed the computer in that I have no pie symbol
Pie R squared really does work for sand volumes
If I remember correctly I had two 40 ton loads of silver sand in my 60’ circle

150mm is 29-30 tns
