Going to look at a 05 honda 350 quad, it has roughly 60k Kms on, tidy and looked after what's it worth ? It's a private sale so I don't want to offend the chap by offering to little ! He said to came and have look and make me an offer ! Don't want to be cheeky tho ! £1500 +vat I thought ?

The older Honda are better than the new ones , I’ve an old big red that never gives trouble , no electric gear changes , great quad.
i beg to differ, ive got a 420 injection instead of carb and it starts hot/cold/wet/dry perfect every time not like old big reds and the 250 and 350 i had before, i agree electric shift pants, one i have now manual. Best quad ive ever had plus selectable 4wd.

I had a 350, it was ok, manual gears are so last century! I have a Yamaha now, Ultramatic transmission, leaves the Honda for dead when herding cattle.

Just don't ask it to do any real work... rear axle made of fudge
1 bearing failed i mine took it apart and the splines were perfect, i have to say with regular maintenance i cant see them been an issue i think its another case of lack of oil changes... but the older one do keep going even with the worst oil its amazing!

if you have a 420 change the diff oil you will be fine.

The thing to remember is that a brand new Honda 420TRX 4X4 with manual box is 'only' just over £5500 + VAT.

With 60K kilometres it has earned its money and is not worth what a lot of people are trying to sell them for. £1500+VAT sounds hellish rich to me after that amount of work unless they give a three month no-quibble warranty with it.
The new 420 is a heck of a performer even if it's not very sexy, and the petrol injection probably makes it more economical than a 300 carburettor quad engine. Mine certainly doesn't use any more fuel, probably less, than my old Arctic Cat 300. My old one had done nothing like those kms but was quite knackered with multiple faults. It was a 2003 model and its frame rotted away three years ago requiring extensive fabrication. Gearbox was fine and engine ran well but had an oil leak from the block and all the bushes, gaiters and air and fuel pipes were well past their best. I wasn't going to waste money and more time repairing it when I needed it most and managed to sell it to an MF enthusiast and small engine enthusiast and repairer to add to his MF collection, for £300+VAT

If the Honda 350 is in good condition I would not pay a penny more that £900 for it personally, if only because repair costs on these things mount up very very quickly. Remember that a 10 hour repair will cost you between £350 and £500 [if not more] in labour alone and the parts aren't exactly cheap either.
