Hi all,

I have a 1962 fordson super dexta, family owned from new done about 2500 hours. Nearly complete original condition, it spent about 15-20 years in a shed and due to this the dvla have no data on it. The original number plates are on it, I’m wanting to know how to re register it? Hopefully take it on a few road runs then. I do have the original brown log book but I’m very reluctant to send this in as it holds great sentimental value.

Cheers

If you have a number plate and it was once registered surely the DVLA will have some records of it? I inherited a MF35 from a great uncle which had sat in a shed for 20+ years, when I re-registered it from the number plate that was on it his details came up as the last registered keeper. Don't tell them you've the old log book anyway, just re-register it using the reg number and say you have no V5, which is true.......

You could also just use form V62 to apply for a new V5C:

I guess it depends if the vehicle is on their system at all or not. If it is you should be able to use the V62 to get a new V5C, if they have no record at all of the vehicle you'll have to use the link in my other post to register the vehicle from scratch (form V765). They may allow you to keep the original number plate.

Not if the old log book was not submitted for the old green one at the time. It will have gone of the system. Best speak to a members club and they will sort you out no bother. It'll be easy getting it though as you have original proof in the shape of the old log book, so you have a good start.

Do they notify the last recorded owner/estate

what’s to stop someone dragging a old tractor out some nettles and claiming it as there own

Patrick pawsey will guided you through it with an age related plate

You could ask for a q plate but you can't change a q plate anymore so I would go age related given the history

i registered an old landrover without sending the brown log book in (still got it here, aong with the recipt for it when new)
I do recall, as you do, that i sent no money either. Got a new V5 for it in return.
I am afraid i do not recall which form i used.

They write to the last owner, I had that with a tractor that the dealer lost the v5 and farmer never bothered until it was sold for export.

DVLA has got a lot tighter over this. The mere fact that you still have the old buff logbook should ensure you get to keep the original number, just photocopy it and send that. They are quite helpful if you speak with them but I have been unable to register a one owner T20 Fergie, have reg number, engine and chassis number but not on DVLA's records. I even have original hand written farm accounts stating where/when and how much it was bought for etc but DVLA will not let me keep the reg as the "computer" says there is no link (on paper) of the chassis number and reg. A ball ache but speaking with an "Owners Club Member" it was suggested that maybe an invoice was found dated a long way back for work done with both the chassis number and reg number on it. DVLA said if this was "found" it would be acceptable.
Bonkers seeing as agg Reg numbers are non transferable .
