How to set drill markers?!

It should be simple enough, but the more I look at it, the worse it gets!!

I have a new (to me) box drill, it's three meters wide, so it has markers, unfortunately, the markers are not long enough to scribe a mark to line up along the centre of the bonnet, rather, its a guide to run the front wheel along.

I'm pretty sure I've worked it out, but would appreciate some reassurance before I start sowing!

We’ve had this debate on here before. The important thing is that it’s right for you, but personally I much prefer to have them set so that you run the inside of your front tyre along the mark. No discrepancy for how you’re sitting, which can often vary according to your direction of travel. Easy enough to mark out on concrete with some chalk and a tape measure.

I have run wheel markers before, yes works well to inside of front wheel/tyre if you can see wheel!
The tractors we run now with mudguards etc I cant see them so easily hence centreline for me.
Also great if you like straight lines as you are looking down the line always, helps if you have centre
mark on front of bonnet

Trial and error seems best way. Never seem to comply with theory due to all sorts of slight variations from tyre widths, way marker works in different soil types, good and bad eyes, paralax etc. Main thing is also drive to same edge of tyre etc on the line then adjust the marker to get the match up right.

Edited- the original pic was wrong
Measure distance between edge of drill and middle of one wheel, this is the length you need for the marker on your drill.

If using the inside of the tyre as the line, then use the same principle as above

Is it just me or does no make any sense.
I’ll try better!
measure drill to get middle. Put a mark ( crayon or sharpie)
Measure the width of the drill so you know it’s 3,4 or 6m etc.....
from crayon mark. Measure out the correct width using a tape measure not your fingers, your stride, your feet or anything other than a tape measure. Mark on ground where the 3,4 or 6 m is from the crayon mark on machine . Set marker to that point then just before you tighten it up. Give it a little tap in.
obviously for wheel marking . Ignore all the above

Is there any need for the smart arse bit about how to measure you had already said to use a measuring tape. I don't normally comment on posts but your post did not make sense and I had been watching the thread with interest as have a drill to set up when I'm home again. [USER=1005]@Robt

let me tell you a story about measuring. a young lad was apprenticed to a tailor and was getting instruction on measuring clients. he was introduced to the telescoping measure stick for inside leg lengths. the tailor told him to extend the stick gently up to the groin and check the length from the tip to the ankle mark. "that's great "said the apprentice but what happens when a lady needs measuring. aah says the tailor, just push the stick up as far as it will go and subtract the wet bit from the total.

In my experience measuring to the disc is fine but a good way - on run up field put a couple of sticks in ground right behind outside coulter 20 yards apart - then do same coming back down field (stopping before you get to sticks) see how sticks line up - modify markers accordingly- simples. Oh and extend markers to centre - sooo much easier to follow . I know not very high tech but shown to me by a well respected ex world champion plowman !! - Happy Drilling.
