I read somewhere a while back that where the trains will be travelling at their fastest speeds the tracks have to be further apart otherwise the air interference buggers up the train coming the other way.

And also that any fences need to be a fair way from the tracks because anything too near will be sucked sideways by the trains at their fastest.

Sounds a bit far fetched, but that’s what I heard.
There was an article a while back that stated that if the train speed was reduced by just 20mph to I think 180, that would save a fortune because all the bridges buttresses, etc could be reduced in length and size, and presumably also the track spacing and fencing, because the shockwave in front of the train would be considerably less.

I think HS2 is a fantastic feat of engineering and blow the nay sayers!😁
It enables freight to be moved as intended and the bonus to the country will be immeasurable
Y’all moaning and doing it from your mega-tractor/ £40k + 4x4, not an old Massey 135!🤪🤪🤪
I have travelled from London to Paris on the HS train and beyond on the TGV services with my family.

I suggest a trip. It will certainly be an adventure. But then you may hate it, so just don’t🤣🤣🤣

That was the attitude with the canal system. What a waste then.
Napoleon saw the light of a water-way system that actually worked and this is still the case. Grain is still hauled on the ‘improved’ network today.

I’m not knocking it per se and agree that the benefit for freight and taking lorries off the road will be considerable, but I am always staggered when going past a site, and went up the fosseway this morning, by how much good agricultural land they seem to need. 180mph is similar to the Eurostar and TGV speed, both of which I have used often and they are fantastic, and considerably faster than the current network! It was just the fact of how much extra that extra 20 mph was costing.

Just to be clear, I'm not so much against the whole idea, but I am bloody vexed about the monumental waste of money actually building it.

Gotta push the boundaries, eh!
1854 the railway came to East Anglia and changed farming in ways folk never thought of. Prosperity for one.
My Smallholding is one. An 1859 ‘new build’ 😮
