Humbolt grazing rye

I think there is the potential for it to try and run to head very quickly, but not sure. Seem to remember that @don'tknowanything was going to try planting wheat very early and keep grazing it to stop that happening, in order to get the crop well established, but never saw wether it happened.

How early has any one ever planted?
Did it run to seed in the autumn?
was thinking of planting now into a failed ley to help save our bacon.
Graze in autumn and hopefully come again early next spring.

Rye, the most difficult crop to manage I`ve ever grown.
It`s at a nice stage to graze for about 3 days, then it goes to head & the cows waste it.
Something like westerwolds ryegrass might do your job better.

Try an acre or two, graze it early to stop it going to ear.

Have you taken any land out of production from last autumn?
