I'm in need of a new bead breaker and have been looking at velvour hydraulic one's on eBay. When you read all the details it says no import duty or taxes have been paid. So its got me wondering are they any good and has anyone bought one and did you end up with a bill for import and tax.

Yeah I've done loads with our digger .but it's much easier doing them upright .I've a cheap manual bead breaker at the moment and it's had a lot of weld on it so thought it's time to upgrade

Upright you say…apparently its not best practice but it can’t be stupid if it worked 🤣
Wouldn’t want to do it using a jack instead of the loader though.

The pneumatic ones that mobile fitters use are not ridiculously expensive for the job they do. Do you not have a good neighbour that would go halves on one of those?

I've got one like that too (not very often you get a bead as slack as in that video though!)
The hydraulic foot pump doubles up on a 20t workshop press too, which helped justify the outlay, and transformed the usability of the press from the old hand pump.

I bought a similar one a few years ago - it rarely gets used, but has done the job when needed. There's some UK sellers so there shouldn't be an issue with import duty & should be fairly quick delivery.

In terms of operation - there's a bit of a knack to the job particularly if the bead is fairly tight - ideally we'd have three hands! Other than that is if using the foot pedal then you need a decent compressor to keep up.

I have one, it's good, but need three hands , maybe four.., especially with the wheel attached..
With two people it's a doddle, but it needs holding in place, using the pump, and whacking in with a sledge hammer between the rim and the tire as it's pressureised.. the inside of a tractor wheel is not so easy either.. but it does do the job.

That's why I was thinking of one with a foot pedal but it starts getting expensive so will have to see how things go
