I admit, I have a workshop tool addiction :-)

@Dave W , you'll look at old bearing races and cut off bits of big tube differently now:), all those things that you may have thrown away can be useful for guides when cutting holes;)
I'm sure you can cobble together a circle cutter, I've always intended to get the proper one for mine but I make do with homemade ones, they do a good enough job for me;)(y)

Still getting to grips with it. Not really getting a clean cut yet. Looks more like I've butchered it with gas axe.
I'm guessing I need to play about with air pressure and power settings?

Have you got any new consumables for it yet? If the nozzle and electrode are worn/burnt out they may still cut but the cut will not clean or straight.
If you haven't got any, then get some new nozzels and electrodes and start a fresh, it will give you a better start to your knew experience (y)

Thanks. Will do.
To be honest I'm still getting over the fact I've bought something on a whim out of an auction that actually works.
At the moment it makes one bit of metal into two which will do for me

Always a good feeling when you get the thingamyjig that you bought at auction home and it works! Only bettered by getting something home to find it doesn't work and the fix being easy and cheap! You somehow feel so unbelievably triumphant

When you get the hang of that plasma you'll wonder what you ever did without one! Even handier if you have the space to have it all set up ready to go, then you just use it for everything! Unfortunately I've not got the space for that luxury at the mo!

To be honest up to a week ago I didn't even know how they worked.
Good job it's got an air regulator on the back or I wouldn't have known you plugged the air line in.
Would have just been making a lot of sparks if not
It's a slippery slope with plasma cutters! I bought a used one, within a year I lashed out on a new hypertherm one with a bigger capacity and then ended up with a CNC one.

My best purchase was a big hydrovane compressor for £20. It even had the lot no still on it from the previous sale at Cambridge. Bloke had clearly bought it and found it was no good so dumped it in another sale.
Plugged it in and nothing. Pulled front cover off, re attached multi plug to control panel and hey presto. Perfect working order (y)

I think my best one was one of our generators, was a clean looking stephill, but the auctioneer couldn't get it to run, and it showed a fault on the control panel, never made the reserve:), we bought it the day after auction when we went to pick our other star purchases up:rolleyes:, new battery and a set of glow plugs and it's never missed a beat:)

A close second was a steam cleaner, wouldn't fire the burner, £1.60 relay from RS components, soldered it into the board, worked ever since:)

On the subject of plasma cutters, has anyone retrofitted a drag tip torch?

I would like one on my 40amp R tech and I will need to replace the torch hose on it sooner or later so wondering whether its worth replacing the whole torch once I have got through the current pack of consumables.
