I've got a tool addiction but......

I'm not the big boss, purchasing department or manager so I've got to survive by buying second hand workshop kit. Was wondering the best places to get industrial gear like plasma, eBay is alright but the gear is expensive for what it is. Where would you lot look for deals, auction sites etc.

Got single, three phase 415 16amp and three phase 415 32amp so power is no issue ⚡
well you say eBay is expensive but their are bagans to be had if you are patient. I just picked this up today bought via eBay auction. Price £41 and that includes a new dressing tool

Good old name that ’Union’. I’m guessing 1950’s or 60’s?
No idea could be a little older I've seen one that was 19 47. Factory closing down as China is undercutting them.sad really more jobs lost in Scunthorpe. But it was on auction and that's all it made.i put an automated bid on for just under 200 .I didn't think they would let it go but the shed needs clearing

You won’t be disappointed with that, probably the most used drill in my workshop now! Just wish I’d got it years ago, top tip, make sure you turn off the right switch if drilling vertically 😂

Cutting 50mm holes last week to fit to inset bushes for an automatic back board conversation, drill never even flinched great bit of kit for the money 👍

I operate on a buy cheap, buy twice policy for a lot of tools.

Unless I know I'll get the use out of it I'll buy a cheap one, then if I break it I'll buy a good one.

I've had an einhell jigsaw for 18 years, came in a set with a grinder and drill, my first power tools when I finished college. The grinder didnt last pissing time (I'd just bought a land rover) and the drill did a little better, maybe did a few years. But the jigsaw lasted until Saturday, it's only probably been used a dozen times over the years. but a 2m cut in 10mm aluminium was too much and sparks came out of the gearbox.

I also have a policy against needless battery tools. I expect this to last me to the end of my days so no point in buying enforced obsolescence for a rarely used tool.

At the opposite end of the spectrum I also bought a kango from Lidl for €130. the price of a few days hire and it came with a 3 year warranty.

Following on from another thread, has anybody bought a piece of Chinese workshop equipment (intentionally or unintentionally) and found it to be a great piece of kit ?
I bought a Yuong Chin milling machine - a clone of a Bridgeport & it is pretty good, but then it is 30 years old & a decent Western design!

I bought a cheap Chinese air/hydraulic bead breaker for about £120 a while back & it does the job pretty well. I also have a hydraulic crimper for up to 100mm2 cable that's decent enough, also hydraulic hole punch - the dies for that are a bit cheap, but I have made an adaptor for greenlee dies which are much better. Pretty sure my SGS Compressor is Chinese & that's fine too!

Lord knows i try my best to avoid the far Eastern market for I never seen too much quality from it,
But...

The lad I bought my BP mill off in Scotland had a new mill in situ that he ordered off the net from a crowd in Chiiinaaa, as the great orange Donald duck would say.

I had a brief look at it and do you know, it was a damn fine machine I hate to admit.
weighed 400kg odd more than the BP and in fairness from what I seen of it I wouldn't of minded it in my tool room.
bought it through the alibabba website he was said.
Daid he ticked every box there was on the optional extras and by gosh it looked the part, DRO, power drawbar, powdered XY&Z axis and the likes and altho i didn't push him on the price, he said he'd sell it to me for 9k so id imagine he would of bought it for round abouts the 8k mark, it was a beefy machine, stronger than the BP but not bulky all the same.

Now, As to longevity I couldn't say and that would be fairly important depending on how much you intend on using it but it sure as hell looked the part.

bearing in mind, the BP's of old weren't exactly made out of solid carbide either so it was hard to argue with his purchase.
he said they sent him pictures of it as it went through the production process and all.
but maybe he got lucky..
All in all, like i said, i wouldn't of minded it in my shed..
