I am glad I don't live in the new forest area!!!

I have just heard on lunchtime radio news that farmers in the new forest area are going to be told to remove horns from cattle because of serious injuries to ramblers

I haven't heard of any such injuries in the New Forest so far. I guess it was only a matter of time before this happened. There's a herd of White Park I see regularly when I drive across there. The horns are part of their identity & I couldn't sell WP cattle as pedigree without horns.

Unfortunately we now live in a country where everyone
is feather bedded and not responsible for their own actions.
Perhaps we should all give up and see if they like walking
through snake infested ,overgrown vegetation.
We went camping in the New Forest this summer and its
the animals roaming free that make the place attractive.

Easy way is to hang up a few ramblers like crows in a corn field to deter more arriving.
Cows were there first before ramblers were ever even thought of. Simples

Anyways, Why has everyone seam to have got it in for cow's as I am proud to own my herd and enjoy keeping them in the lifestyle they so enjoy.

It's the latest fashion .
Let's hope they find something else to hate by the Spring collection.

Remind me again why cows need horns?

I haven't got it in for cows, I like them, used to work with them all the time, gave any with horns a very wide berth though.
The UK would be a much nicer place with more cows and less humans.

They need horns to;
1) comply with herd book regulations
2) look pretty
3) get in the way when you want to handle them
4) ---more of the above

Exactly that's why people go to certain destinations,
because things look pretty.

What we need is someone to digitaly enhance what
these landscapes would look like if there was no animals
or maintenance by man.
Pretty bland I'd imagine.

There have been a few cases of walkers being caught by cattle on the Forest Commons this year. A lady had her dog killed near here and the vet told me that "a country person " went to her aid and ended up in hospital. For some reason, it has been worse this year than usual. One group that seemed to be causing more mayhem were sent on their way by their owner. It has been quite a big issue in the local papers.

Good point on the reasons tourists travel to destinations but horns on cattle causing problems may scare them off too?
Horns will make little difference to the way a habitat looks just the way the cattle look (and sometimes act)

A nation of early retired dog walkers with no respect for country codes.
I witnessed people deliberately walking straight through cattle
with their dog/s instead of giving them space, nearly provoking them.
I watched a cow eating apples off a tree with my two little ones from
a safe distance and thought what a unique experience for city children
that must be.
Perhaps better signage might be beneficial telling people of the dangers.
Nothing in life is 100% safe as your probably more likely to be in an RTA getting
to the New Forest in the first place.
