Import costs

I am currently with Pozitive energy for my import, which is now costing over £1400/ month, on an actual useage of £17.90 worth of electric.

This month the Distribution fxed chargs has doubled from £12.52 per day to £25.28 per day this is for a 100kVa supply.

I realise that I need to pay to have the electric available if I have a CHP shutdown, but the costs are getting too serious to ignore now.

What are other exporters paying and who are you using?

Don't you mean importers?

My standing charges total £19.93 per day, based on a 200kva 3 phase supply. That's Yu Energy on a deal brokered by Alex.

I've not done the sums, but I'm fairly sure I'd be better off paying for a lower kva ceiling and picking up for excess charges on the odd days I draw a lot of juice... For the best part, with a poultry farm, the days where I need a lot of energy the PV is there to supply it.

for £25 a day, before the meter goes round? Buy a big ole gen set, and tell em to disconnect?

That seems like a better idea, but how do you go about reducing your kiva ceiling

I've never done it, I think you just have to contact the DNO and request the change, in my case that'd be UKPN. Anyone know how the process works for sure?

Thats what I am thinking of doing, but I need the line for export so not sure if its that simple.

I am just trying to put off the inevitable call centre tedium that I will need to go through to sort out.

I get it.
The whole system needs sorting as far as I can see.
Are you on the peanuts feed back payments, or a FIT double bubble?

I dread their involvement even more....cos I'm on a disc meter, and have no arrangement!

No, I am perhaps being a little greedy as I spend most of the time exporting into the grid rather than importing, and I do understand the need to contribute to the infrastructure, but the fact that the charge has doubled, and the contract I have states I have to shoulder any increases, £16k a year is a very hefty insurance policy to get electric on the odd occasion when the CHP is down, so I think a standby genny is probably more cost effective.
