As per ... anyone looked in to importing heifers post Brexit? I assume there will be extra health checks and documentation?

My gut feeling is to leave well alone for six months or so for things to settle but am interested to hear experiences

You not worried about delays at the ports?
I know in the past it’s been less than 12 hours from Danish lairage to farm yard but when you read about all the extra paperwork, I have my doubts it will be as smooth over the next few months

No different to bring a flying herd?
Flying herds operate on a basis of buying cows/heifers that they will run on to beef and have all their capital in milk animals, not breeding heifers then selling groups out and replacing with a slight different breeding! Is it only me or when we have purchased heifers in the past they are always a lot more highly strung than our own bred stock😂😂

agreed. I guess the poor calf value and high purchase price for the dam makes jerseys a difficulty there. 100%. I thought they were quiet ( which they were tbf) until we had our own and now they just wonder into the parlour and unit straight on no fuss. This said our tech noticed the other day the cows are a lot more content when I’m milking compared to the relief staff. It must just be what they are used too.

Surely this is a herd health disaster waiting to happen just be patient and breed what your chasing!

Health status is the primary reason why we usually buy abroad and hence why I am interested to hear of any problems that may be occurring currently.
I believe that if I import, I may have to register on something called IPAFF but that may only apply to the agents?

Have you taken any land out of production from last autumn?
