Have had the insurance quote from the NFU for my 3 tractors and combine. Made my eyes water! Can anyone tell me who to get further quotes from? Thanks.

Basic premium rates for comprehensive cover on tractors and combines are £10 per thousand £ value of machine. So £50k tractor = £500 plus 12 % tax. BUT all Insurers then vary these rates depending on claims history and other factors including amount of contracting usage. Result is cheapest rates are £6 per thousand, most expensive £12/13 per thousand. You should be getting more discount on the premium on higher value newer machines. Hence £200k new tractor wants to be no more than £8-£9 premium per thousand £ value.
Premium rates are increasing at the moment, -the £10 per thousand rate has remained the same through my 30 years in Insurance- bit like the wheat price!
